eHealth Shared Services: Principles and Tools for Effective Governance

This series will focus on the concept of shared services, where two or more health organizations share all or a portion of their eHealth and IT needs.  The series will begin with an introduction and explanation of the nature of eHealth services, and then why and how these can and should be shared between many different health providers. The concept of leverage within a Shared Services model is explained, and how eHealth supports broad integration within the healthcare enterprise. The second part of the series covers more advanced topics, including the various eHealth Shared Services Models that can be utilized, Governance Models, Service Level Agreements, and concludes on Advanced Concepts such as the Cloud, and how this will affect eHealth services over time. This is the future of eHealth in Canada.

2017 Digital Health: Canadian & Provincial Status Report Update

This two-session series will cover Canada’s approach to implementing a pan-Canadian electronic health record and the current state of development of digital health and the implementation of electronic health records in all provinces. The first session will focus on a standardized provincial eHealth strategic planning model which provide a common view of the key components of an eHealth strategy, and the supporting infrastructure that is required. The second session will provide a deep dive into one or more provinces and will highlight a guest speaker who will provide a critique of the methodologies and reflections of its application and “fit” in the province that is being reviewed.

2016 Digital Health: Canadian Status Report Update & Important Next Steps

This two-session series will cover Canada’s approach to implementing a pan-Canadian electronic health record and the current state of development of digital health and the implementation of electronic health records in Canada. It will give a short overview of health records and the impact on quality, safety and access that eHealth strategy solutions have.  It will focus on eHealth strategic planning: how planning works, planning models, key components of an eHealth strategy, supporting infrastructure required, lessons learned and best examples of eHealth–integrated healthcare systems in Canada.  It will cover the key steps of building a shared infrastructure which facilitates integration and enables collaboration which incorporates acute and primary care, diagnostics, self care, business system, culture of analytics and coordination of care.

A Diagnosis of the Digital Health Agenda in Canada: Strategies and Decisions - Past and Future

Over 15 years have passed. What have we accomplished and more importantly what more needs to be done? William Pascal, our instructor, was present during all the major events over these years and will be sharing his frank views on how things unfolded; the good and the bad. More importantly, he will also share his views on what needs to happen going forward to achieve the benefits that a digital agenda holds for us all. He believes we are between 40 to 50% of the way down the road on this journey and the real hard decisions are still ahead of us.

eHealth Strategies and Electronic Health Records

This series will focus on the development of eHealth strategies and the implementation of electronic health records. The series will begin with a short overview of health records and Canada’s approach to implementing a pan-Canadian electronic health record. It will then focus on eHealth strategic planning: how planning works, planning models, key components of an eHealth strategy, lessons learned and best examples of eHealth–integrated healthcare systems in Canada. The sessions will be given by one of Canada’s leading eHealth experts, Roger Girard. Roger, who has had a long career as a Canadian eHealth CIO, will give both the theory and a practical perspective on eHealth strategic planning.
